[Full-View PLEASE]

It all started when she was younger. A cub, to be precise- young, impressionable, and completely innocent of all the world's faults. Aside from the most unusual blue glow to her eyes, she was fairly standard in the eyes of the scientists who created her- a bit of feathery fluff along her back, but that was it.

A certain scientist took a bit of a liking to her, and generally became the one more often than not to take care of her, study her, perform tests... all of those things that are so commonplace in the labs. Being young and impressionable, she grew quite fond of this man, the one who fed her, spoke to her, and generally scritched her behind the ears moreso than any of the other white-coats did. That's not to say he was overly nice to her, not by any means; but she was an investment, and he took good care of his subject. At the very least, he was less likely to handle her as roughly as the other technicians sometimes did.

That all is, until she grew into adolescence. As stated before, as a cub, the only really striking feature about her was her eyes- other than that, not much else stood out. The feathery fluff along her back was interesting, but not terribly uncommon, and she was obedient enough. But at some point in her development, those innocent looking feather-tufts started becoming more than just tufts; though it is unknown as to why the development of her wings was so delayed and the growth so rapid (usually the limbs are present at 'birth'), the simple fact was that now, there they were.

The general census of GeNtech does not highly favor the feathered-wing trait. It is seen as a sign of weakness, and an unfortunate anomaly that has proven very difficult for them to be rid of from the Layhr genetic code despite their best efforts. Needless to say, it is frowned upon; though the rare subjects that show it aren't a complete and total waste- mostly, but not entirely.

This was a great disappointment to the scientist tending her, however. In fact, he was thoroughly disgusted by the fact that his little pet project had oh so suddenly gone from prize specimen to pathetic failure, certainly no longer worth his time. It should have stopped there.

But it didn't.

He was so disgusted by the sudden appearance of her wings, so infuriated by their mere presence, that he decided to rip the cursed things off. In a moment of rage and spite, he'd grabbed her, dragging her off to one of the unused rooms on the floor; and, once there, had clamped onto the offending limbs (most likely with heavy pliers or something of the sort), snapping bone and tearing flesh, essentially amputating them without even so much the courtesy of anesthetic. Whether the newly-formed limbs were fragile from recent growth or whether he was stronger than he looked, they'd torn completely off... though certainly not cleanly.

He's been properly dealt with for such a disregard to GeNtech's property, so you need not worry about him. It's doubtful any of you would know him anyway; he was never one really in the public light. Just another scientist in the labs.

The Layhr in question was stitched up as best as she could be, though the wings couldn't be saved- not that it would matter much, anyway. Her spirit is completely broken, being betrayed by the one person in the world she'd looked up to like that; she was probably destined for failure regardless.

As an interesting note, however, despite how much effort went into scrubbing her fur clean of all the gore, the blood seems to have stained right down to the skin. No matter how many times she's been bathed and brushed, the crimson red bloodstains just won't go away. Maybe it was just a side effect from any number of the chemicals she's been exposed to throughout the course of her life, but regardless of why, the marks still remain, testifying as to what she's experienced.

I wonder if they'll ever fade.

[As a side note, some of you may be wondering why I seem to upload so many Layhr-related things in the same exact pose and angle- there is reason for this, mainly being because the ones I upload here are profile-shots of a sort, and need to fit a specific criteria. Yes, it's boring, but it works- I'll save the interesting poses for actual illustration, rather than profile shots.]

[And oh yeah, blood-splatter brushes for the background gotten from... somewhere. I'll edit in the link when I can find it. ^^; Did the stuff on her back by hand, though.]

Project Layhr and GeNtech Labs, including this girl and her backstory, are © me.

OMG that's awesome! :jawdrop: like the background, love the hair and I'm not sure what it is about the feet but I really like them (the way they're drawn, perhaps? I dunno, I sometimes find myself drawn to random parts of an image simply because something about the line art in that part apeals to me. ) anyway great job! :D

P.S. the story was awesome too. sad but awesome!

The feather and bloodspatter brushes make a very attractive background, the character is interesting, and the story provides a nice two-for-one deal. Can you change the "blue glue" of her eyes to "blue glow" or is it meant to be glue?
